Dermapen vs. Dermaroller Microneedling

Great news: for those who want to look and feel better, there is a vast range of skin improvement and anti-aging treatments available on the market.

However, sometimes too much choice can make for a difficult decision. When it comes to Dermapen versus Dermaroller microneedling, how do you know which technique to choose? Don’t worry! We’ve explained the difference below to help you decide which is the better treatment for you.

Both Dermapen and Dermaroller are collagen induction therapies, which basically means that they create “micro” wounds on the skin which in turn encourages the body to heal and repair itself by producing collagen.

Increased collagen production results in younger, rejuvenated looking skin.

What is the Dermaroller?

The Dermaroller is a device that is designed to pass over your skin around twenty times in vertical, horizontal, and oblique directions. This results in microneedle columns which are around 0.1 mm wide penetrating the skin. As your body starts producing collagen, the columns close quickly. Some people can find the treatment uncomfortable and sometimes it can be difficult to reach those hard to reach areas of the face due to the nature of the needle and needle direction.

What is the Dermapen?

Dermapen takes the benefits of Dermarolling then adds extra advancements which make it even more effective. There is very little damage to the epidermis, and discomfort is reduced. In this technique, the method is delivered vertically which ensures the needles won’t bend, and small contoured areas can be navigated easily.

The Dermapen microneedling technique is not only quicker, but it reduces discoloration as well as promoting greater collagen production. Dermapen is safer, easier, more comfortable and more effective. Therefore, it tends to be the more popular treatment out of the two.

Is the Dermapen microneedling procedure painful?

Generally, the treatment isn’t painful. This is true for minimum needle depths. However, Dermapen microneedling treatments that are over 0.5mm deep, may result in the use of a topical anaesthetic cream. This will be applied to the skin approximately 15-40 minutes before the treatment, and it will result in a virtually pain-free procedure!

The other great benefit of the treatment is that no real downtime is required. Naturally, you may experience facial redness for around 12-48 hours after the treatment. However, the majority of people are able to return to their normal routine directly after the treatment.

It’s always recommended that you apply a breathable camouflage which will seal the skin and cover any redness that you wish to hide for work, meetings or general daily activities.
