Skin Needling

Skin needling or, as it’s otherwise referred to, microneedling, is a process designed to stimulate collagen production. It involves a device called a Dermapen 4, which finely punctures the skin and encourages collagen to form. This treatment was introduced to rejuvenate the skin and enhance its ability to self-repair.

Collagen induction has never been easier.

Dermapen 4 is the industry leading microneedling device, it is a skin repair treatment that can help to significantly improve the appearance of ageing or scarred skin.

Why choose microneedling for skin rejuvenation?

Microneedling has become a sought-after treatment for skin rejuvenation because it’s safe and effective for everything from acne to wrinkles. This treatment has been practised for many years and achieved fantastic results for a wide range of skin concerns.

The introduction of the Dermapen 4 to the aesthetic industry has revolutionised skin rejuvenation treatment. This unique device is used by inserting 0.25mm to 3mm disposable, sterile needles in the tip, which are designed to precisely penetrate the skins epidermis and dermis layers. Through controlled and strategic puncturing of the skin, pinpoint bleeding results, prompting the body’s wound healing response. When the skin’s surface heals, the look and texture of the skin improve, as collagen production has been stimulated and the skin resurfaced.

How the microneedling treatment works

About 30-45 minutes before the microneedling treatment is administered, patients are given a topical anaesthetic. Only after the anaesthetic has taken effect and the patient is comfortable, is the Dermapen applied to the skin a number of times to the areas that are being treated, resulting in thousands of tiny puncture wounds. After the initial skin needling session is completed, the skin is softly cleansed and a healing serum applied to help enhance the skins repair process.

  • What is the Dermapen 4 skin needling device?

The Dermapen 4 skin needling device is an advanced piece of skincare technology that’s electronically charged. This pen is designed with an ergonomically shaped, oscillating wand, which vibrates to soothe the skin while the needles are inserted.

Why the Dermapen 4 is so effective for skin rejuvenation, is because the incisions it makes are incredibly accurate. This innovative device has the capabilities to adjust its speed and depth, which means that multiple skin issues are able to be treated in just a single session. Some of the many skin concerns which have had great results from the use of the Dermapen 4, range from wrinkles and pigmentation to stretch marks. As with many cosmetic treatments, the most superior results are achieved after repeat treatment.

  • How the Dermapen 4 works

By penetrating the skin finely and precisely, the Dermapen 4 creates channels of tiny puncture marks on the skin and stimulates it to self-repair naturally, so the skin is rejuvenated. As the patient undergoes more sessions, healing and regeneration take place, so the skin continues to improve over time. It’s a virtually painless process that only takes around 15-minutes. Face needling is an ideal treatment for more difficult to reach areas of the face, such as under the eyes and upper lip. Side effects of this treatment are the skin may become mildly red and sore for up to two days max.

Frequently asked questions

How many treatments are recommended for rejuvenation, acne scarring and stretch marks? (General guide)
  • Rejuvenation: 4-6 treatments, 4 weeks apart
  • Acne scarring: 6 treatments, 6 weeks apart
  • Stretch marks: 4-8 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart

A course of Dermapen 4 treatments is recommended to deliver and sustain long-lasting skin correction and results. A professional skin consultation will determine the best course of action and the number of treatments required. As a guide, 3-4 treatment*s are recommended for ageing and wrinkles, 6-8 treatments* for scar reduction and up to 8 treatments* for stretch marks. Needling sessions are performed at 6-8* weekly intervals to deliver cumulative and effective results. As needling triggers the skin’s natural healing mechanisms, visible improvement will appear around 2-4 weeks* post-procedure. The repair cascade may continue for up to 24 months* after just 1 treatment*. Multiple sessions provide progressive stimulation to further enhance results and longevity.

Are there any side effects?

Dermapen 4 technology allows for effortless facial needling with minimal side effects and down time. Fractional skin treatment ensures the skin’s integrity is never compromised, with any scabbing, bruising or burn risk. The appearance of petechiae or small blood blisters is common around areas of thinner skin quality especially around the crow’s feet and under-eyes. These are perfectly normal and usually disappear within 3-4 days. The skin will feel and look slightly red for up to 3 days post- treatment with Dermapen 4. This may be accompanied by a feeling of tightness the appearance of slight flaking. The application of a light moisturiser and sunscreen will increase comfort and reduce inflammation. A non-occlusive mineral make-up may be used to conceal any redness.

Should I prepare my skin before having a Dermapen 4 Treatment?

For optimal results, a period of effective active treatment creams, such as Vitamin A, C or Resveratrol & Procyanidin is recommended to allow the skin’s strength to build-up (especially for thin or delicate skin areas).

Is the treatment painful?

For minimum needle depths Dermapen 4 Treatments are painless. Treatments over 0.5mm deep, may require a topical anaesthetic cream to be applied 15-40 minutes before the procedure. This will render the treatments virtually pain free.

Is there any downtime after treatments?

Generally no, but you may experience facial redness for 12-48 hours after the treatment. Most people are able to return to normal daily activities immediately after the treatment. Application of a breathable camouflage will seal the skin and cover any redness for an immediate return to work.

How soon after filler injections can I have a Dermapen 4 Treatment?

It is recommended to wait at least 7 days after filler injections so that any post-treatment bruising from the fillers can settle. It is also possible to have your Dermapen Treatment several days before having fillers injected.
