Tattoo Removal

Tattoos are a very interesting idea, and they can make or break your appearance drastically. Some tattoos are great conversation starters, souvenirs, traditions and tokens of love and respect. And these are awesome.

But sometimes, tattoos serve as physical reminders of memories with past lovers, bad decisions taken under the influence of alcohol, or simply a shoddy job by someone claiming to be a “tattoo artist”. It might even be necessitated by your employer, as a part of their dress codes.

And in most of these cases, you will want to erase your tattoos or replace them with new ones. Fortunately, even permanently inked tattoos can, in most cases be removed.

Remove those “moments” effectively, efficiently, safely.

You can finally say goodbye and move on with your life when you get your unwanted tattoo removed in a safe, effective way.

You’ll no longer need to cover up your tattoo when you go for an important job interview or a promotion, or special social outings.

How can permanent tattoos be removed?

Laser technology has advanced to the point where it has been applied to cosmetic enhancements. Lasers used for these purposes are highly focused and produce an intense laser beam that helps achieve the desired effect.

Permanent tattoos are made by inking the skin, and in most cases, the ink is dark in color. When a laser beam is delivered to the skin, it is attracted by the darker ink particles.

Once it makes contact with the ink, the ink shatters into tiny fragments which are invisible to the naked eye. The fragments are taken up by macrophages and lymphatic system and eliminated by the body’s natural filtration process.

What is the actual laser tattoo removal process like?

The treatment will vary based on the size of the tattoo, its ink and your skin characteristics. Once you choose to remove your tattoo through laser, your appointment can last between 15 minutes to an hour.

The laser will be aimed at the ink and break the ink particles. The process feels like rubber bands are flicking you so we will apply a topical anaesthetic to your skin prior to treatment for approximately an hour prior to treatment

The number of sessions can vary, and professional tattoos might require six to twelve treatments, while amateur ones might be removed in three to six. Follow-up treatments are spaced at four to six-week intervals, and the tattoos can fade over months even after the treatment is over.

  • What device will be used during the treatment?

During your treatment, we will use the Pastelle Q-Switched Laser, which has been demonstrated to be extremely reliable to remove tattoos. It generates high-output energy at very short intervals, which makes the experience tolerable.

The Pastelle Q Switch laser provides a consistent amount of energy at stable levels. This ensures that there are no spots that are targeted more than others, reducing complications and side effects.

  • Benefits of Q-Switched Lasers:

    • Targets darkened areas of pigmentation
    • Breaks up areas of pigmentation, allowing the body to lighten and clear it naturally
    • Surrounding tissue is not damaged
    • Can treat light or dark skin types
    • Fast and comfortable treatment
    • Minimal downtime
  • What to remember before the treatment:

Even before you choose to remove your tattoo, you should remember that some pigments cannot be removed using laser treatments. These are modern, pastel, white and ultra-vivid pigments that can turn dark. These darkened residues might not further respond to treatment.

Some other pigments that contain earth-toned pigments can turn completely black, hence it is essential to conduct a patch test before beginning the complete treatment. It is sometimes difficult to predict the results from a tattoo removal process, and it is imperative that you understand the risks.

What results can I expect?

  • Most tattoos can be either removed or significantly lightened. Darker tattoos such as blues, blacks and reds respond best to laser removal, while lighter pigments like aqua, green and yellow might just fade.

After the tattoo removal, you can choose to get re-tattooed. This is one of the several reasons people get their tattoos erased.

The tattoo may not completely disappear, and 95% fading is a good result. This depends on the tattooing method, the type of pigment and your own skin. Your clinician can provide you with a likelihood of success during your consultation

  • * Individual results may vary
  • What are potential complications during tattoo removal?

Firstly, remember that the process differs based on the depth at which the pigment is inserted in your skin. As it targets deeper layers of the skin, the treatment can be moderately painful. You might feel a stinging or burning sensation and this is considered normal.

Another common experience is the appearance of small white dots on the skin. This is just water vapor that results from heating your skin by the laser and is no cause for concern.

Your skin might feel raw and sore for a while after your treatment and blister. Never pick at the treated area and allow it to heal. If it becomes infected, please contact the clinic. get in touch with your clinician.

  • Post-treatment care:

Once you have undergone laser tattoo removal, you must follow your practitioner’s advice very carefully. This is for your own health and to ensure that your skin does not undergo complications.

Some things that you may need to remember are:

    • Keep the treated area dry and clean, and gently patting it dry.
    • Use an antiseptic 3 times a day for the first 2 days and cover with a sterile dressing.
    • The skin is likely to blister, this is normal and common. Treat these with antiseptic and cool compresses as needed.
    • To manage the associated pain, use paracetamol, not aspirin. The latter can cause bleeding and bruising.
    • Don’t pick at your scabs or scrub your skin while showering.
    • Avoid sun exposure without sunscreen for at least 8 weeks.

Frequently asked questions

How does pastelle compare to other tattoo removal methods?

Most tattoo removal methods are harsh, painful and potentially scarring. They include surgical excision, dermabrasion (or sanding) and chemical peels. Pastelle treatments are not only safer, they are very precise, targeting only the ink used in the tattoo process. The most precise of all laser treatments is Q-Switched Laser.

How many treatments will I need?

The size, location, depth and colour of your tattoo will determine how many treatments are required. Professional tattoo inks and light colours are more difficult to remove.

How will the treatment feel?

The sensation of the treatment is rather like the snap of a rubber band on the skin. Most patients do not require anaesthetics, although some people may feel more comfortable with a topical anaesthetic. Each session usually takes 10-30 minutes, depending on the size and colour composition of your tattoo.

What happens to my skin after treatment?

Right after your treatment, some whitening of the skin may occur, the area around the tattoo might become reddish and could have some swelling. This is normal and will disappear gradually over time. The full effect of each treatment takes about 5-6 weeks. Immediately after treatment, antibacterial ointment and gauze will be applied to the treated area to minimise the chance of infection.
