Laser Hair Removal vs Electrolysis

There are multiple techniques for hair removal, namely the laser technique and electrolysis. Having said that, it is important that we understand the difference between the two so that it becomes easier to weigh your options and make a sound choice.

Understanding Laser Hair Removal:

Laser hair removal process is quite in demand these days given its multiple benefits and long-term advantages. In layman terms, laser hair removal works by infusing a laser light beam to the melanin in the hair follicles so that the damage causes it to fall out.

In other words, the laser beam works upon a large area subjecting multiple hair follicles at once thereby saving time and energy. The treated melanin burns and wastes away which, in turn, results in ceased production of hair at the root.

Since laser hair removal works on melanin and burns it away, it can only be used on people with dark hair and light skin. the laser beam recognizes the dark hair due to its excess melanin content, differentiates it from the light skin, and addresses the melanin to stop hair growth.

If used on an individual with dark skin color, the laser beam may wrongly burn away skin pigmentation leading to rashes or burns. Apart from this limitation, there is nothing else that needs to be taken care of while using laser beam for hair removal.

Understanding Electrolysis:

Electrolysis works by imparting low-energy electrical impulses on the root of the hair causing it to stop growing and producing. It targets one hair follicle at a time which makes it a rather detailed and time-consuming process.

For permanent hair removal by electrolysis, it may take anywhere between 20-30 treatment sessions with a gap of a month within consecutive sessions. This makes it a rather lengthy process. Laser technique needs around 5-8 treatment sessions in every 1-2 months. It can take around an hour or less for each session of laser hair removal.

Which one is better?

Both laser hair removal and electrolysis are approved by the FDA for hair removal. However, neither of them is covered by health insurance since they fall into the category of cosmetic processes and not critical healthcare.

Having said that, both methods are quite rampant when it comes to hair removal. However, if you intend to undergo a permanent hair removal, it is best to opt for laser technique. It is efficient, convenient, less painful, and cost-effective too. Moreover, it can be carried out smoothly and swiftly since it is not so time-consuming.

Electrolysis also has its own advantages. It can be carried out on a person of any skin and hair color since it does not target melanin. Also, it is best for the short term since it removes the hair from its follicles. But, speaking of overall advantages and long-term benefits, laser hair removal is the best choice to opt for.

All argument apart, the biggest advantage of using laser hair removal technique is that it can be used on any part of the body and can remove hair from any big or small patch of skin. You can use this technique on your full arms, full legs, and also your full body.

Electrolysis, on the other hand, can only work on a small patch of skin like on the upper lips or face due to its detailed process.

So, what are you waiting for? If you are thinking of getting a permanent hair removal procedure, there can be nothing better than the laser technique!
